For arborists, park maintenance crews, and professional landscape contractors, yellow and orange hi-vis are functional — but visually wrong for the environment. Green workwear is a deliberate choice, not a default: it matches woodland sites, managed parkland, golf course rough, ornamental gardens, and green infrastructure projects where a fluorescent yellow garment reads as out of place against the client's surroundings or the natural setting.
Part of our full hi-vis hoodies range — five W1006 colourways designed for the specific environments outdoor trades professionals actually work in.
The black-and-green combination has become the established colourway for local authority parks departments, professional groundskeepers, forestry and arboriculture contractors, and environmental agency field crews across the UK.
These workers need retroreflective safety coverage for proximity to powered equipment — wood chippers, ride-on mowers, chainsaws, stump grinders — but they want workwear that looks intentional in a parkland or woodland context, not borrowed from a road scheme.
The W1006 in Black/Green is the Essential fleece version of exactly that: proper warmth, 360° retroreflective tape, and a colourway chosen to fit the work rather than override it.
Early morning outdoor work — pre-dawn tree inspections, frosty groundskeeping rounds, autumn landscape projects before the air temperature rises — exposes a consistent weakness in lightweight workwear: it doesn't warm up fast enough when you need it most.
The W1006 Essential range addresses this with a heavier-weight brushed polyester fleece that creates a genuine thermal mid-layer from the moment you pull it on. The brushed interior traps body heat against the skin immediately, rather than relying on your own movement to build warmth over the first twenty minutes of a shift.
The fleece outer holds its structure through a full season of industrial washing. It resists pilling at high-contact points like elbows, cuffs, and chest pockets — the points that degrade first on cheaper site layers — and keeps its colour fastness better than alternatives that fade to a washed-out version of themselves within weeks of daily outdoor use.
For seasonal grounds crews and landscape companies that kit out staff at the start of each winter season, a garment that still looks presentable in March matters as much as one that looks good in October.
Outdoor greenspace work is not low-risk just because it's scenic. Arborists work in the drop zone of wood chippers and under chainsaw operations. Groundskeepers move through machinery corridors on golf courses and sports grounds where tractor operators have limited visibility to the rear and sides.
Landscape contractors work on sites shared with mini-excavators, compactors, and plate tampers. In all of these contexts, being clearly visible to the equipment operator is a practical requirement — not an abstract PPE tick-box.
The W1006 carries retroreflective tape in lateral bands across the chest and lower body, and vertically down both sleeves, creating a 360° retroreflective signature that machinery lights, hand-held torches, and vehicle work-lighting can detect from every approach angle.
In wooded environments where natural light is uneven and dappled — the conditions arborists and forestry workers spend most of their time in — active retroreflection is significantly more reliable than fluorescent fabric alone. The tape earns its place most on overcast days and in the shadow of a dense tree canopy.
This is a true pullover — no front zip of any kind. For workers regularly wearing climbing harnesses, chainsaw chaps, tool belts, or pruning aprons, that means no zip to catch on webbing at the chest, no mechanical failure mid-shift on a cold site, and no cold air channel from an accidentally opened front when you're at height or in position.
It goes on over the head, the adjustable drawstring hood seals for wind and rain cover in exposed locations, and the elasticated cuffs close against wind and debris at the wrist — useful when clearing ground vegetation, hedgecutting, or working in overhead canopies where material falls into the sleeve opening.
The multiple front pockets are positioned at a practical working height, deep enough to carry a hand-held radio, phone, folding knife, or measuring tape without distorting the garment or making noise when you're moving through undergrowth.
The unisex cut covers S to 2XL — a useful single SKU for mixed-gender grounds maintenance teams and landscape crews who want consistent kit without separate lines.
Every size from S to 2XL is in stock now, with 84 units across the range — no waitlist, no partial fulfilment delays. At £27.99 per unit, three hoodies clears the £50 free delivery threshold. For landscape companies and grounds maintenance teams ordering for a seasonal crew, the Black/Green W1006 is available for immediate dispatch without the sold-out risks that affect some of the other W1006 colourways. If your crew includes builds that need 3XL to 5XL, the Hi-Vis Fleece Hoodie 8 extends the size run at a lower price point.
For mixed-trade sites where some crew roles use orange convention rather than green, the W1006 in Black/Orange is built from the same heavier-weight fleece at the same price.
